Paul Shain Art Updates Mar 2025 (#6)

Work on exhibit

I am very happy to report that the judge for the Watercolor Art Society-Houston's (WAS-H's) February exhibit "Reflections" awarded my Reflections I an Honorable Mention.

I have ten pieces in WAS-H’s sales gallery.

Studio move

I moved into a new studio. It is at Art Square Studios on Almeda (5301 Almeda Rd Ste 317, Houston, TX 77004). There is parking on the street and in a lot behind the building. I am now unpacked with almost everything in its place.

We have three open studio events a year. I'm happy to host visitors by appointment. Here are three views of the space.

Yesterday, I hung 16 pieces on the wall. There's a lot of room left on the studio walls for me to fill! I also have several pieces in the hallways. Here are the pieces I hung yesterday.

Art news

WAS-H's 48th International Watermedia Exhibition is taking place this month (link). There are about 100 works on display (out of about 400 entries) from all over the world. It's well worth a visit (or multiple visits) through March 29.

Current and upcoming classes

I am enrolled in four-session virtual class at WAS-H. It is called "The Best Paintings Can Come from Dogs." I hope to learn how to improve works ("dogs") that I'm not happy with and might otherwise cover with gesso and start over. I have my doubts about which approach is best, but I'm keeping an open mind. The instructor is Susan Giannantonio whose work I've seen and admired at WAS-H.

I am going to an urban sketching workshop in Lisbon in April. I’ll stop in Paris to get over my jet lag and celebrate my birthday. Oliver Hoeller (@hoelleroliver on Instagram) will be instructing. I attended one of his workshops in San Francisco last August and enjoyed it. (I also enjoyed the SF Bay Area or, as I call it, the Ancestral Homeland.)
