Paul Shain Art Brief Update 6 October 2025

The Watercolor Art Society-Houston's (WAS-H) Annual Members Exhibit runs through October 29. My Reflections IV received an Honorable Mention award.

Reflections IV, acrylic on paper, 12”x16” (matted, in a 16”x20” frame).

This is one of a series I created for a show titled Reflections at WAS-H earlier this year. Its sibling, Reflections I, was also awarded an Honorable Mention.

Art news

The Menil Drawing Institute Wall Drawing Series – I attended the opening for the current piece. This mural was created by Gladys Nilsson and will be on display through August 9, 2026. It is impressive not only for its size but it's whimsical execution. I recommend it highly and also recommend first watching the discussion between the artist and the curator on YouTube. (You can see the back of my head on the far right side of the front row.)

Two events where I and others will display our work

October 18, 12-6: WAS-H Art Market (1601 W Alabama St). Many members will offer work in watercolor and acrylics. There will be other arty-crafty items such as notecards and paperweights available.

October 26 1-5: Art Square Studios on Almeda Open Studio (5301 Almeda Rd, parking available behind building off Oakdale). About 20 artists in my building will open their studios to the public. There is parking on the street and in the lot behind the building.

The good news is you received one less email. Work on exhibit This month’s exhibit at WAS-H is titled “Stories We Tell”. I entered the three pieces below. The show runs through September 27. Gotta Cut Loose Pleading for Harmony IV Gotta Cut Loose,...

Paul Shain Art Update July 2025 (#10) Work on exhibit July's exhibit at the Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) was the annual student/teacher show. I had three paintings in the exhibit (see below). These are from classes I’ve taken this year in watercolor and acrylics. August’s WAS-H exhibit is the annual experimental show. Paul Shain Art Update June 2025 (#9) Work on exhibit June's exhibit at the Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) is "Pop Art." I will have three paintings in the exhibit (see below). This was a great opportunity to learn something about pop art. I think I embodied several elements of the genre in these pieces. Next month is the student/teacher exhibit. I have several to choose from for my submission. I'll consider that after the June 22 open house (see below). Art news My studio, Art Square...
