Paul Shain Art Update June 2025 (#9)

Work on exhibit

June's exhibit at the Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) is "Pop Art." I will have three paintings in the exhibit (see below). This was a great opportunity to learn something about pop art. I think I embodied several elements of the genre in these pieces. Next month is the student/teacher exhibit. I have several to choose from for my submission. I'll consider that after the June 22 open house (see below).

Art news

My studio, Art Square Studios on Almeda, scheduled an open house on June 22. The address is 5301 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77004. There is parking on the street and in the lot behind the building. Feel free to tell your art-loving friends about this.

I started reading Molly Bang’s Picture This: How Pictures Work, Revised and Expanded 25th Anniversary Edition, a birthday gift from my son. I enjoy her discussion of how she constructed a very simple painting. For each step, she asks what would happen if I made this or that shape differently in some way (size, color, sharp or rounded vertices, etc.). I like the simplicity and clarity of the approach.
